Pre-Foundation
In Music
The Pre-Foundation
in Music is offered to individuals who wish
to pursue the Bachelor Of
Music (Hons) in Professional Music or the
Berklee Transfer Programme
at ICOM but do not possess the entry requirement
of a grade 4 in formal music education. This
intensive programme is conducted over a twelve-week
period and is carried out on a part-time learning
basis. The course provides students with the
rudiments of music, mainly music theory and
ensembles.
The rationale of the programme
is to provide an avenue for musicians and
enthusiasts who are able to play a musical
instrument but lack note-reading skills. This
programme then acts as a stepping-stone into
ICOM's full-time programmes. In the course,
students are taught the fundamentals of music
theory to a level that is equal to a Grade
4 in accordance with the Associated Board
of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) and
Trinity College of Music. They are also given
exposure in performing as a group or ensemble.
At the end of the course,
students are assessed in a final examination
and those who receive a mark of 60% and above
qualify into the main programmes.
Intakes for the Pre-Foundation
In Music are in January, March, July and September.
